AFC Gornal

Our successful sunday football team AFC Gornal didn't quite manage to take the league title after a somewhat disappointing end to their season which left them in runners-up spot.

"It was a massive disappointment" explained Manager Richard Upton "because if we had won our last 4 games we would have clinched it. I got the feeling that some of the lads were content with finishing runners-up, which isn't acceptable."

Second spot is no mean achievement as it still sees AFC continue their relentless climb through the Sunday Divisions, but Upton says that he is looking to bring in several players for 2004/05.

"John Magher who is a huge influence was sorely missed" he told us "and some of the players that were signed were not up to scratch."

The club will be holding a presentation evening on Saturday 24th July 200 to see off the old season and look forward to the new one. -->
