Green Light for Overspend on Eve Lane Traffic Junction

Dudley Council are rarely out of the news at the moment with stories of their tight control of the purse strings - as our recent articles about Critters Farm and the Dudley Environment Zone demonstrate.

However, Yampy readers will be interested to note that there is at least one area in which the Council are willing to authorise expenditure.

At the last North Dudley Area Committee, Council Leader David Caunt, a Sedgley Councillor and Gornal resident, cheerfully acknowledged that he personally had signed the decision sheet to accept a £135000 overspend on the traffic light project at the top of Jews Lane/Eve Lane.

The 'reason' he gave for this generosity was some mumbled tale; money allocated to the task was loaned out for another project in Kingswinford, then repaid at a time when the cost base had changed, etc., etc...

Cllr. Caunt gave a new target date for the completion of the junction of 'two weeks', so we're hoping that by this weekend at the latest (21st/22nd Feb 2004) the lights will finally be working. At the moment the combination of unactivated signals and traffic cones restricting visibility is a disaster waiting to happen.
