Dudley Youth Council has been granted £4,560 from the Local Network Fund, which is administered by the Birmingham Foundation, to carry out consultation work with children and young people living on The Oval estate in Upper Gornal.

The project, which is supported by Judith Bennett (Dudley Council’s Neighbourhood Manager) and local youth workers, will help local children and young people living on the estate identify issues that need to be addressed. Findings, including recommendations on how to make the area a better place to live, will be collated and presented to the Council.

Lee Thompson, Member of the UK Youth Parliament for Dudley, said:

“We are very grateful for this grant. The Youth Parliament believes it is important to represent a range of young people’s views, working with them to identify problems in their communities and coming up with solutions. If it goes well we hope to carry out similar work in other neighbourhoods.”

Councillor Angus Adams, Lead Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, Dudley Council, said:

“Lee has been a very proactive member of the community through his role as Dudley's Member of the Youth Parliament and also being part of the Dudley Youth Council.

“It’s great to see young people getting involved in politics and really being able to make a difference to the lives of others. I look forward to seeing the recommendations that the young people on the estate put forward to the Council.”
