SAVE SEDGLEY FIRE STATION

Dudley North MP Ian Austin is urging local people to log onto www.savesedgleyfireservice.co.uk and sign the online petition launched by the campaign to save the fire station.

Mr Austin has pledged to do all he could to fight the Fire Authority’s plans to shut this much needed local service, saying the planned closure would leave the Sedgley area without its own local fire cover, relying instead on Dudley and Tipton fire stations.

Sedgley fire station is the region’s only retained fire station and is believed to be the most cost effective in the area. The Government is calling for a national increase in the numbers of retained firemen as it allows for better cover and expansion of the fire service. Sedgley Fire Station was estimated to answer around 800 calls a year when fully operational.

Ian Austin MP said:

“I’m completely opposed to plans to cut the cover provided for my constituents and the response on the doorstep to our petition has been overwhelming, which shows how concerned local people are about the Fire Authority’s plans.

“We have to send a strong message to the Fire Authority against these plans so I want everyone who can to log onto www.savesedgleyfireservice.co.uk and give this campaign their support.

“Residents can also contact me on 01384 342504 or by emailing austini@parliament.uk for petition forms so they can register their opposition.”
