Local girl group Gemz have qualified for the semi finals of a prestigious national talent competition.

Gemz are Heather Mills, Beth Sherburn and sister Ellie Sherburn. On the 13th March 2004 they won their age category at the National UK Unsigned heat in Manchester, as a result of which they now progress to the semi finals in London at the end of June.

It was a successful month all round for the trio, aged between 11 and 13, as a week earlier they won the Search for a Star contest at the Beacon Centre for the Blind.

Heather's mum Sue Mills told Yampy:

"The girls have won quite a few talent contests. At their age they obviously do it for fun, but it's a great hobby and their families and friends enjoy supporting them."

Gemz have performed at their 'local', the Baggeridge Social Club, where they helped to raise more than £2000 for Children in Need last November. They are now organising another special event there on Friday 11th June 2004 - "Kirsty's Night", with all proceeds going to help a local girl and her school.

"Their enthusiasm and endless energy is very addictive" says proud mum Sue.
