Housing Roadshow - Saturday 4th September 2004

Bring all the family and find out about the future! That’s the latest message from the Use Your Voice, Make Your Choice consultation process into the future of Dudley’s housing service that will be coming to the centre o f Sedgley this weekend.

The Use Your Voice Roadshow will be hitting the north of Dudley in its attempt to reach out to Council tenants and hear their views over the different options that the Government is making for future funding. These are:

1. Stay the same – the management of Dudley’s housing would remain with the Council. Only current spending levels would be available.

2. Arms Length Management (ALMO) – The Council remains landlord while day-to-day management is transferred to a new company, owned by the Council. It would be able to borrow to fund extra investment.

3. Transfer of housing stock to a new social landlord – new funding would be available from banks and building societies.

4. Private Finance Initiative (PFI) – Council remains landlord, but enters into an agreement with contractor to improve properties over a 30 year period.

5. A combination of any of the above.

The Roadshow will be out and about outside the new Co-Op store from 10 am to 3pm. A facepainter will be joining Council staff at the event along with a tenant’s representative giving out information and gathering people’s views.

Director of Housing, John Stringer, said:

‘We need to find out what people want while at the same time giving them impartial information about the future. These Roadshows will be informative, but also fun and I hope that people will pop along just for a couple of minutes on Saturday and join in.’
