1920's CRICKET AT THE INHEDGE

Yampy was fascinated to receive this photograph from Glenys Wilkinson, showing the Upper Gornal Cricket Team in the 1920's. The picture appears to have been taken at The Inhedge.
Among those pictured is a John or Edward Wilkinson, the grandfather of Glenys' husband. John/Edward unfortunately died young, leaving three boys orphaned.
We must admit that we had never heard of an Upper Gornal Cricket Club, although we have previously published a later photograph of a 1940's team which was based near the Red Cow in Grosvenor Road (click here).
Glenys believes that there is still family living in the Gornal area, and would be very interested to receive any further information about Mr. Wilkinson, the cricket team, or those pictured on this photograph.
