ROBERT STREET HISTORY REQUEST

Can Yampy readers help local researcher Cassy with the following request? If so, email her at cassyfranklinATblueyonder.co.uk (replace AT with @).

Cassy writes:

I live in Robert Street and one of the houses number 86 is supposed to be an old farm house. The story going is that it used to belong to a farmer and his son, but when his son got married it was split into two houses and has been two houses ever since.

The smaller of the two houses was once a doctors surgery at the front, and the main entrance to the house was at the back facing the Chapel house pub.

When I first moved to Robert Street nearly thirty years ago the back garden was full of fruit trees with a well at the bottom. Also there was a cattle path at the side of it now used has a drive way, which lead in to a field that the Sharp family used to own. Later they built a bungalow on the field with access to the Chapel House Pub.

I do know that about 35 years ago two sisters lived there with out children and when they died it was sold at Auction to a landlady who rented it out for rooms. Later she sold it and it was converted back to a house.

Try has I might I have not been able to find out any more info about it. So I am hoping someone local will know more of its history.
